Who we are

This policy explains how Tushia Consulting Agency (Pty) Ltd ("Tushia", "we", "us"), a company based in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, handles personal information in "Tushia Alerts", our WhatsApp messaging service. Tushia Alerts sends service notifications to our customers, such as voicemail alerts and call-minute balance warnings, and forwards WhatsApp replies sent to our business number to our staff by email. We are the responsible party under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Information we collect

We collect only what is needed to send and receive WhatsApp messages for our customers.

• Contact details: the WhatsApp phone number and name of the person we message or who messages us.
• Message content: the text of notifications we send and of replies we receive, plus attachments if a sender includes them.
• Message metadata: time sent, delivery and read status, and message identifiers supplied by WhatsApp.
• Account information: the customer account or extension linked to a notification, such as call-minute balances or voicemail details.

We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not collect payment card details through WhatsApp.

How we use it

We use personal information only to run the service: to deliver notifications our customers have asked for, to pass incoming WhatsApp replies to the right member of staff, to keep records of what was sent, and to find and fix technical faults. We do not sell personal information and we do not use it for advertising.

We process information because it is necessary to provide the service the customer requested, because we have a legitimate interest in running and securing it, or because the person has consented, as POPIA allows.

Sharing, retention and security

Messages pass through WhatsApp, which is operated by Meta Platforms, Inc. Meta handles that information under its own terms and privacy policy. We also use hosting and email providers to run our servers; they may only process information on our instructions. We disclose information to others only where the law requires it.

We keep message records for as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal and accounting duties, then delete or anonymise them. Information is held on access-controlled servers, sent over encrypted connections, and available only to staff who need it. Because our servers and Meta's may be outside South Africa, information can be transferred abroad with appropriate safeguards.

Your rights and data deletion

You may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. To request deletion, email us at the address below from the account concerned, or send "DELETE MY DATA" to our WhatsApp number. We will confirm and complete deletion within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep some records. You may also complain to South Africa's Information Regulator at inforeg.org.za.
